So....no one appears to have experience with both speakers under any circumstances....certainly not under controled or driven by similar electronics etc. Anyone out there with an intelect to match these speakers....or are all owners of such equipment still in high school comparing who's member is larger?
I have heard both.Neither is the best I have ever heard. Not bad but not the best.Spending large sums gets you braging rights not allways the best sound.
IT'S TOO BAD YOUR HONEST QUESTION CREATED A CONTEST OF INSULTS I HAVE HEARD THE AVALONS AND FIND THEM TO BE TERRIFIC IN TERMS OF SOUND STAGE AND IMAGING--THEY PROBABLY BETTER THE REVELS IN THIS AREA BUT TRAIL IN BASE AND SLAM I OWN THE REVELS IN A TOP NOTCH SYSTEM AND FIND THEM ABLE TO REPRODUCE ALL STYLES OF MUSIC WITH EASE THERE ARE MANY OTHER CHOICES (AND VARIABLES) TO CONSIDER AS THE DEBATE TEAM HAS POINTED OUT ENJOY EITHER SPEAKER ESPECIALLY FOR THE SMALL FORTUNE NEEDED TO OWN THEM
I've heard both, though not in the same room. Both rooms were carefully (and expensively) treated. Both were mated with superb, though different, electronics (Salons: Sony SACD, ML 380S, ML 33H and VTL MB450's, Nordost IC and cables Eidolon: Spectral digital, pre, and power with MIT cables) IMO, the Salon had slightly more dense midrange textures (more weight in lower midrange?), better low frequency extension, and a better dynamic impact. However, I preferred the Eidolons for their superior transparency, holographic imaging, and huge soundstage. Granted, some of this could be attributed to the room or the electronics. I own Avalon Eclipse which I think combines much of the virtues of both the Salon and Eidolon, though with less low frequency extension and dynamic impact than either. Both of the above are great speakers. Jordan
Hello 082288, I compared both of these speakers in the same room with the same electronics and cables. (Spectral-MIT) You have to decide what your priorities are. The Revel will play louder and give you more authority and go lower in the bottom end. The Eidolon is more transparent and can totally disappear. It is more resolute of information and can focus images with a spooky precence that is beguiling. It is also more accurate of instrumental timbre lending a more realistic view into the recording being played. For my taste I found the Eidolon to be the more convincing speaker. In my room it plays louder than I can stand without strain and has plenty of low tight bass. If you have an extremly big room and like to listen at excessive volume levels the Salon would be a better choice for you. Good luck, Tom
