I've also been considering to replace the power cord on my vintage McIntosh amplifier but I don't see how it could be done without doing some surgery on the chassis and some disassembly of the unit. I'm looking for someone locally to do the conversion by installing a true IEC plug. Might affect the resale value but that's not a big consideration for me.

Has anyone ever upgraded power cables in an older amp to get a better AC connection?
Probably a really dumb question but can you purchase something inexpensive like a Pangea AC-14 and clip the IEC end off and install it into a high end (but vintage) non-IEC amplifier or pre amp without causing problems?
