Replacement for Snell M7 Bookshelf Speakers

I’m thinking about replacing said speakers. The M7s I have right now are awesome because they image very well, have bass that extends down to 40 hz (these are stand speakers!), and can handle a lot of power. However, I find their lower mids to be muddy, and their treble to be a bit recessed. I would like a new set of speakers that still retains these positive qualities while also cleaning up the somewhat smeared frequency response. Any suggestions? Buying used is a given, and they need to be bookshelf speakers. Less than $1000 is my pricepoint.

It amazes me when people have description of sound such as this what are you're room treatments, associated components in you're Music Reproduction System, source materials, format preferences?
