REGA RP 1 Turntable Repair question

This Rega RP 1 turntable has a strange problem. 

When initially turned on, it spins BACKWARDS !.....

however, when I turn it OFF, and then ON again,....It spins correctly and plays records as it should.

I have asked Repair Techs about this problem and receive different replies.

I have heard that it could be a simple repair by replacing a Capacitor....or I also heard the motor could be defective and needs to be replaced.

They are unsure how to remedy ....

Any input from this forum would be so appreciated.
