I just figured it out. Too simple. Output from Dragon to output in preamp. Input from Dragon to input in preamp. It records very well.
Recording with a Bryston 17b3 preamp.
I just got my Dragon refurbished today and I'm trying to record. The instructions are not quite clear enough or I'm just not understanding it. The salesman said it could accept a tape deck and record. I placed tape in from tape deck to the record rca jack on the preamp. I can play a tape no problem. I'm making this way too difficult.
The manual states
6. Record input
Though this input can be used as a standard analog input, the previously selected input will still accept audio. This special input allows for monitoring of audio coming back in from a recorder that is currently receiving audio from the fixed level outputs on the back of the BP17."
