Recommend blue-ray player w/ lots of functions?

Hello -

We bought our first blue-ray player a couple of weeks ago and can't even use it yet (ugh) cause our receiver isn't modern enough. I've also posted elsewhere here about recommended AV receivers (that are known to not compromise in good music sound, if possible). So while the blue-ray player sits there plugged in but useless, I can't help but wonder if I should be asking those "in the know" if we even got a good enough one (I can return it before 30 days)! I bought it on the spot and there doesn't appear to be much out there in cyberspace about it.

What we got is the Panasonic Blue-ray Disc Player DMP-BDT310 (I don't think I'm allowed to put links here or I would). I liked that it seemed to be saying it will act as a CD player with stereo sound, cause our CD player broke. I don't know if that sound for music will be as good as a real CD player (?) but that's pretty important to me. However if you know that nothing will be as good as a CD player, please let me know that too!

Anything you highly recommend?

Thanks!

Without knowing your budget, here are a couple of suggestions:

Marantz UD5005 - $600 (universal disk player)
Marantz SR5006 - $800 (receiver)

If you budget supports more then you can choose which step up the line you want to take.

I'd suggest getting matching components because it'll both work well and look great.

Another brand to look into is Integra.

If you have the budget and plan to get into stereo listening, consider getting a universal player that does SACD as well.

Oppo BDP-93 is $500 and does about everything.
Only the old PS3s do SACD and since they have an RF remote it makes a universal remote a lot more expensive if you want one. Other than that, I think they have some benefits.
