Recommend a good router/modem combo please

Hi All,

So I'm going to ditch the Xfinity gear and buy my own modem/router combo. All brand new to me. I live alone and the only thing I stream for now is music. I have been checking them out and have been eying the Netgear Nighthawk CAX30. I also currently have 3 TPLink adapters and one of them is running my rig for my streamer. Will a new router/modem combo mess with this?

Any recommendations on that or any other unit? I should mention my home is just under 2200 sq feet and the signal kinda sucks in my house.

Thanks in advance, always appreciate those that take the time to respondsmiley

My Nighthawk has worked flawlessly for a couple years. I put Bitdefender on it (sans the VPN) and other than blocking an attack by my trail camera (my doing) the Bitdefender runs without issue.

A speed test shows I get better than advertised upload and download speeds.

But if you are going new get the latest and greatest. Spend the extra $$$ to go overkill.
And be sure it is compatible with your service providers signal.

If you live in a fairly large metropolitan area, you will find many routers for sale at cheap price. I got an Orbi router plus mesh satellite unit for $150.

Music streaming usually uses the UPnP protocol. For it to work well, you want to turn "IGMP snooping" off in the router settings. Orbi lets you do this; the TP-Link routers I've seen do not give you the setting and do not document whether the firmware has it on or off.

FWIW, I will be placing my Network Acoustics Eno streaming System filter and cable on USAM next week. It will be at a bargain price,  IM me for details. I am the original owner bought from a authorized dealer. I have something new coming next week to try.
