Quiet Preamp? Quiet IA?

I'm looking for a component to incorporate 2 channel into my home theater. I'm trying to decide between an integrated amp and a preamp.
Would a preamp be more quiet due to better separation? Or would an integrated amp be better due to less cabling? Or is that purely based on the individual components?
I need HT pass through.I need a remote.I need at least one balanced input.
Budget for a preamp would be about $2K. I'd cough up more for an integrated, but I'm concerned about speaker matching for system changes in the future.
Any recommendations?
