Don't know too much about your tonearm, but a coil and capacitor usually are low/high pass (frequency) filters. A series capacitor and parallel coil pass high frequencies. Conversly, a series coil and parallel capacitor pass low frequencies. These are also the basics of speaker crossovers.
Purpose of Coil and Capacitor SME III Tonearm
Does anyone know the theory and practice of the coil and capacitor hooked to the grounding of a SME Series III tonearm? Is this a filter for the tonearm ground? If so, how does it work? Are there any similar designs in other tonearms? I have only taken apart Thorens arms in the past and these don't have this set up.
