ps3 for upconvert do i need a pre with video?

Maybe i have this all wrong....but... i use my ps3 to run my video conversion when i see dvd's... blu ray does not require conversion....

so do i been to spend the money on a av processor that has video processing?

am i missing something here?

i would still need the hdmi passthrough though.
