PS Audio DirectStream Thoughts?

I’m looking at upgrading my system, starting with the CD transport. I’m currently using a Vecteur L4 (2002) and am looking at the PS Audio DirectStream Transport, the Atoll dr200se, and the Audiolab 9000cdt. I’m auditioning the latter two in the next week. Any thoughts on the DirectStream (going to an AudioNoteKit DAC 3.1).

Thanks in advance!

I purchased the PSA SACD/ CD transport about 2 years ago.

My primary reasons were that I had a decent sized collection of SACD/ SACD hybrid discs and an elderly 20 year old SACD player (SONY 555ES) and enough nervousness that it could not be serviced if it started to act up.

I also thought about the Luxman and McIntosh players, but caught a factory authorized sale on the PSA Transport.  So, with the Gain Cell DAC it was about comparable price wise.

I am enjoying the transport.  I swear I am hearing details on CDs I have not noticed ever.  It has been problem and glitch free.

One thing, you will need to exercise care with your selection of a DAC.  The transport is designed to work BEST with the I2S connection.  It is easiest with a PSA DAC and you may need to speak with PSA if another manufacturer's DAC/ IS2 connection will work with the transport.

Thanks very much, Rich! My DAC does not come with the I2S connection, so I'll need to give this some serious thought. Cheers! ~Tom

The I2S connection is more important for SACD playback.  Redbook CD playback  should be unaffected.
