You should be aware that VTL’s reputation for support/repairs, especially for used equipment, is abysmal. Not a small consideration IMO.  Forgot to mention Spatial offers a trial period for the Raven if you’re interested in it.  

Many of our fellow audio enthusiasts, myself included, have had fantastic results pairing Coda gear with the Aric Audio Motherlode Preamp. I have the Model 16 paired with the Motherlode and bests any SS Amp/Tube Pre by a substantial margin.

I have been pleased with the voicing on the BHK pre by PS audio.  They are around used for the low side of your budget and service is available if needed.
