Preamp Deal of the Century

If anyone is looking for a true "World Class" preamp at a very fair price..heed my advice. I just recieved a Supratek Syrah preamp that was hand built by Mick Maloney in Western Australia, and it is absolutely beautiful! This preamp is the best deal you will ever find. I would put it up against any preamp out there for both looks and sound. Price? $2500 for the Syrah (includes Killer Phono stage). Not into phono? Try the Chardonney line stage for $2100. Don't get me wrong, I am not associated with this company. I am just a very happy owner! This preamp is VERY dynamic, yet liquid. It conveys the sound of music better than any other preamp that I have ever heard! You can check out the Supratek website at www. cantech.net.au

One or both of your 6sn7 tubes could be microphonic. If so completely normal.
Hi,
Just recieved my Sauvingon a few days ago and wanted to say a few words.
It replaced my Pass Labs Aleph P which served me very well for many years. The Sauv. is just as quite maybe more so which says alot, because the Aleph P was tomb quite!
I ordered the Pre-amp in chrome & jarrah wood and I made Mick put V-caps in the output position (thanks Fiddler). The Sauv. uses 2.0 caps which are very expensive, but hopefully I won't be changing Pre-amps in a long time. The look is very beautiful with some minor imperfections(nothing to write home about) and the sound is dynamic, effortless, liquid and extended. Once I get some more hours on it and get my main CDP back from service I'll respond back. Thanks everybody for the heads up,will be trying some NOS tubes that were recommended.

Did anybody try Valve Art KT-66 or 350B tubes for regulator duty in their Sauvignon or any Supratek pre-amp?
Hi Seadogs1, I have a Spectron Musician III paired with a Sauvignon with V-caps and it is a match made in heaven. I have the non SE version but, I'm sending the unit to John for the SE upgrade. I'll post my impressions when I get it back. The combo sounds so nice now, I'll be surpised if it sounds alot better.
When I ordered my Sauvignon Mick installed the V-caps. They certainly do not sound brittle and harsh IMS.
I can't compare, though I never had the Auricaps might be something to try in the future.
Everybody hears differently what somebody dislikes might be the other person cat's meow.
On second thought with the stock EH 6sn7's instead of some good NOS I rolled in, the sound is a little less smooth.
No problem, Zachzdb I had an imbalance problem which Kevin fixed quickly. My Sauvignon is dead quiet and works perfectly, with rolled tubes it sounds wonderful.
Good Luck, Kevin's work is very good, if there is a problem he will fix it as good as new.

Regards,
Joe
Sorry to hear that people lost money and have unresolved problems. I hope you get your due.
I quess I am fortunate to have no problems. I had a channel imbalance after a few months of ownership and it was taken care of quickly. Kevin did the service and I was very satified.
Thank God, been 2 yrs. with no issues. I still enjoy the sound.

Can anybody tell me if I could use a 5u4g in the rectifer postion, emailed Mick haven't gotten a reply yet.

Want to try the EML 5U4G mesh plate, looks like a very nice new production tube. Anybody try them?

Hi Fiddler, try Herbies iso-cups instead of the cones. Should improve things even more.
I use them in my Sauvignon. They are the most rounded tube I have and tried. I have tried just about all of the top rated tubes, so that is pretty good praise.

They are quiet,very linear,big soundstage,great bass,smooth mids,and extended airy highs.

Pricey, but well made and matched, IMHO

Joe

Audio123,

The RCA 6sn7 VT-231 gray glass or Kenrad 6sn7 VT-231 staggered plates with black glass or clear glass should give you what you want.

Andy from Vintage Tube Services has nice 6sn7 tubes. A little expensive but he backs his tubes.
