Preamp Deal of the Century

If anyone is looking for a true "World Class" preamp at a very fair price..heed my advice. I just recieved a Supratek Syrah preamp that was hand built by Mick Maloney in Western Australia, and it is absolutely beautiful! This preamp is the best deal you will ever find. I would put it up against any preamp out there for both looks and sound. Price? $2500 for the Syrah (includes Killer Phono stage). Not into phono? Try the Chardonney line stage for $2100. Don't get me wrong, I am not associated with this company. I am just a very happy owner! This preamp is VERY dynamic, yet liquid. It conveys the sound of music better than any other preamp that I have ever heard! You can check out the Supratek website at www. cantech.net.au

my syrah pre is scheduled for delivery on 03-03-03. i think i already got $2500 worth the fun reading these posts! the only problem is iv'e blown about $400.00 on nos tubes just to have something to get me thru the agony of the 6 month wait.i was wondering how long the phono section takes to break in,i don't know if my aged koetsu & i can take it!
in my all tube system,i found the mullard gz 33,tung sol 5881,tung sol blacked out ,round plate 6sn7's,rca 6fq5a,and we417a to be the best combination.tube rolling with this pre is just amazing,it can transform a very good preamp into a great preamp.vibration control is also a necessity,as the top plate rings like a bell.bottom line is iv'e never had more fun with my system, than when i installed the syrah
if you still have the dynavector cartridge, i think the we 417a & mullard 6gk5 will be the best,iv'e tried the ericsson 417a,& rca 6gk5 & get too much top end playing my helikon cartridge, yet they were ok when using the koetsu rosewood, try to find cryoed mullards if possible (better through the mids)
Kenji ans Simon,
I think you will be thrilled with this pre. I have had the Syrah, the Cortese, and now the Cabernet, and this is Mick's best work yet. Mine is set up for 6sn7's and the round plate, black glass Tungsols sound the best( big news there). It is just a little better in every parameter. Bass is more tuneful, stronger and faster. Mids are VERY pure, and the top end is just like the rest of the supratek pre's, superb. The soundstage is what octal tubes do best, no real pinpoint images here, but a well defined stage with great depth, even at the outsides. The new px4 tube will probably out live us all, and do have a nice glow to them. These preamps are just plain fun to own, not to mention the fraternity of owners. I think you will enjoy your purchase.
I bought mine used off Audiogon a couple weeks ago. The seller lived near a radio tower and could not stop it from picking up interference. I think it was only a couple of weeks old when he sold it. I had no idea it was set up for 6sn7's, so I was thrilled when I got it. After owning sevreral MFA products and my previous 2 Suprtatek preamps, I have accumulated almost all forms of 6sn7 tubes. TJ Mesh has a picture tour to show there facility, definitely a mom and pop(and daughter) operation. They seem very committed to making great tubes and the PX4 is one of there new designs.
I have a pair, cyoyed even, brand new. Shoot me an e mail with your info and you can have them. I moved up to the Cabernet, so I don't have any need for them
