Preamp Deal of the Century

If anyone is looking for a true "World Class" preamp at a very fair price..heed my advice. I just recieved a Supratek Syrah preamp that was hand built by Mick Maloney in Western Australia, and it is absolutely beautiful! This preamp is the best deal you will ever find. I would put it up against any preamp out there for both looks and sound. Price? $2500 for the Syrah (includes Killer Phono stage). Not into phono? Try the Chardonney line stage for $2100. Don't get me wrong, I am not associated with this company. I am just a very happy owner! This preamp is VERY dynamic, yet liquid. It conveys the sound of music better than any other preamp that I have ever heard! You can check out the Supratek website at www. cantech.net.au

I recently purchased a used Cortese and I would like to try some other tubes and I would appreciated some recommendations. In the main unit I have 6SN7GTB TUNG-SOL and Tung Sol electric pearl 12B4A ,then moving toward the front Philips 6922,then move to the front are 6C45N 8711 and I can't read a name on the tubes. In the power supply I have SOVTEK 5881/6L6WCG and in between that I have a Mullard GZ33 .What tubes can I replace and what should I purchase ?
Which tubes are for the phono stage ?
I have Wavelength 300b amps with WE300b's or KR300b's and Cain&Cain Single Horn Bens Speakers.
In a few months I will purchase a Bix Turntable and I could also use suggestions for a cartridge that will match the Cortese .
Thank You
Bill
Hello everyone I have a Cortese and I am in the process of rebuilding my first turntable (Lenco L75) . I have a rega rb250 arm and I want to get a cartridge. I was thinking of getting a Stanton 881 Mark II S Cartridge, is this a good cartridge for starters ? I want to spend less then $200.00 and may upgrade later when I tweak everything in . I am open to comments and or suggestions .

Thank you for all the great information !!
I have a Cortese thats about 3 years old and I am thinking of doing the upgrade or ordering a new Cortese .
Has anyone upgraded their Cortese and could you explain the difference ?
Has anyone listened to a new and an older Cortese ?
How long is the wait for a new one? I may end up ordering a new Cortese and sell my existing one after .

Thanks,
Abill
My Cortese doesn't turn on . I was listening to it then I turned it off for a while to change some tubes and it wouldn't turn on . I changed all the tubes in the power supply and it still doesn't turn on. It's about 2.5 years old, I didn't see any fuses inside . Any suggestions ?
I will email Mike.

Thanks
Abill
I found out where the fuse is in the cortese. It's at the outside rear of the power supply below the power plug. There is a little drawer that slides open.

I would like to get some better phono tubes for my Cortese. I am using Phillips 6922 that came with my pre when I bought it used.
The tubes I'm using now:
Zenith (sylvania) 6F6G's
Phillips metal GZ34
Rca Gray 6SN7
I have a nice pair of Tungsol round plates with mica tops that I bought a year ago. They test as new and when I put them in my Cortese the sound is a little dull with lean bass .I think it is because of my phono tubes.I have a rebuilt Lenco L75 and it sounds good , a little better then my cd player and again I think it is because of the Phono tubes.
I hate seeing the Tungsol's sitting on the shelf. So I want to get better phono tubes.
The really got nos tubes are $300-400. Do I have to spend this much ?
I was hoping for a recommendation for phono tubes that are 85-90% as good for less money .
Since adding the Lenco to my system I listen to 95% vinyl.I am very content with my Cortese.
I am also interested in getting a tube tester. I don't want to purchase it from ebay so if anyone has one that has instructions and manuals I am interested in it.

Thanks

Hello all , I have a Cortese 3-4 years old and need a pair of tungsol pearl 12B4A cryo-vac tubes. Anyone know where I can get a pair ?
Does this tube have a large impact on the sound ?
Is there a better or more common tube to get ?

Thank you for the help
