I never said I was using a pure chain, just saying active isn't the be all end all. There are pitfalls to it just as well as passive. In theory they are better but in practice I haven't heard a powered speaker system I have really liked, I've heard a few active systems where the passive crossover is bypassed that sounded good, but not one that the speaker manufacturer provides the amplification.
Powered speakers show audiophiles are confused
17 of 23 speakers in my studio and home theater systems are internally powered. My studio system is all Genelec and sounds very accurate. I know the best new concert and studio speakers are internally powered there are great technical reasons to design a speaker and an amp synergistically, this concept is much more important to sound quality than the vibration systems we often buy. How can an audiophile justify a vibration system of any sort with this in mind.

@lonemountain when did I say passive was better than active? I have no problem with a line level crossover, some even prefer PLLXO to active crossovers with the right system for it. |
@kota1 what does a Grammy winner have anything to do with sound quality, the Grammys are usually a joke. |
@lonemountain thespeakerdude said electronics can be pure, which is simply not true. |
@donavabdear I don't know how the tubes in your BHK300 can only last a year, did you test them before replacement. They should last a good long time in an input stage. |
@donavabdear tube equipment isn't necessarily noisy, I've seen multiple posts that claim the BHK preamp is noisy. I have a tube preamp and a tube dac both with AC heaters and no audible noise. |
@thespeakerdude I don't think that the BHK preamps are consistent from one example to another, some people claim no noise and others have a lot of noise. They didn't all have high sensitivity speakers either. |
@secretguy the most posts because the same three guys keep posting, which is fine, but it doesn't mean it's important. |
