Please show me how to listen to hi-rez audio embedded in films

QUESTION: After buying a Blu-ray player (which?), then how can i get Dolby True HD and/or DTS HD Maste hi-bit-rate PCM movie audio, into my 2-channel Bel Canto 2.5 DAC, then to my amp? and speakers??

I use my blu-ray with HDMI output into my Denon  5.1 home theater gizmo....but don't sweat it...not a big deal improvement
I see your Bel Canto does not have analog pass-thru so I am not sure it can be done at all.  There may be a work around but I can't give you an honest answer to that.

Willand,

you suggest  "Since your Bel Canto does not have HDMI, you must let the player decode and do the D/A converting and send it analog to your DAC."

?? BUT sending an analog already dac'd signal to my Bel Canto does not compute....you mean to the Bel Canto just to use it as a preamp/volume control??
OR
have you tried using an HDMI de-embedder??

Bob,
you suggest "you can configure a BR player to do the decoding to PCM. Then just connect from the player's digital audio output to your DAC's digital audio input."
BUT
as per Oppo bdp103 owners manual, hi-rez audio can't be sent through the coaxial or optical digital audio output"  ...see below:

  • Due to bandwidth limitations, high resolution audio formats such as Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution and DTS-HD Master Audio cannot be sent through the coaxial or optical digital audio output. A reduced resolution version of the same audio track will be output instead. To listen to high resolution audio formats in their best quality, please use the HDMI connection if you have a receiver that handles HDMI audio (see page 11) or use the multi-channel analog outputs if you do not (see page 16).

  •  Due to copyright restrictions, SACD audio cannot be sent through the coaxial or optical digital audio output. To listen to SACDs, please use the HDMI or analog audio connections.

  •  Due to copyright restrictions and bandwidth limitations, full resolution audio from DVD-Audio discs cannot be sent through the coaxial or optical digital audio output. ...

I think the only way to do that is to let the player do the decoding and to set the player to stereo LPCM and send it via HDMI. Since your Bel Canto does not have HDMI, you must let the player decode and do the D/A converting and send it analog to your DAC.

As far as BD players, my best experiences are with an Oppo BDP-83 and my current Cambridge Audio 751BD. If you were to get an Oppo BDP-105, you would have the best of most worlds. Great inboard/outboard DAC, superb SACD, CD, DVDA, DVD, BD player, and can be used as a preamp.
