Pioneer C-91 help

I have a Pioneer C-91 preamp and it is, in general, working fine. I can play from other inputs but not tape2. I seem to remember this being user error in the past but darn if I can make it work. Both decks can play through tape 1 when hooked up to 1. Neither plays through tape 2. The controls are a bit confusing since you can wind up with both the tape 1 and rape 2 lights on at the same time. Any ideas.

I remember Tape 2 being used for monitoring the tape being recorded, but it has been decades since I thought about this.

So, the following comes from an old AudioKarma thread ..

The tape monitor switch allows you to listen to the tape on the three-head machine while it is recording. But the regular input selector allows you to decide which source you are going to record from. That is why the tape swich is not on the regular selector switch.

If you don't have a three-head tape deck, then you will never understand the value of this very useful feature. FWIW: this feature is absent from most modern receivers due to the fact that Tape is now an obsolete medium.

Faulty relay is a common culprit on vintage gears.
