Physical Media at Blow Out Prices

I have been in and out of thrift stores lately and each time I am scoring lots of blueray and dvd live concerts cheap. The streaming crowd is cleaning out their closets and dumping discs. Blueman Group, Sting, Adele, Elton, Sinatra, ZZ Top and on and on at less than $10 a disk. Scored a box set of Elton John "Dream Ticket, 4 discs, nice box set, over 7 hours of music for like $5. I am ripping them to my NAS and they are amazing SQ. Most are in dolby or DTS 5.1 which I play upsampled to 11.2.2 and it is soooo much better than spotify or even a CD.

You can find deals on Amazon but shipping is a factor. I love seeing the poster wall on my Zidoo player full of concert posters. For the ultimate hack the Zidoo translates the video to Dolby Vision (even for DVD’s) and the iFi iPurifer spdif II does a great job with the audio.

Yup, I do that too. I mean, acquring new CD-Rs for very little money.

Alternatively, visit a local library or give them a call. You may be surprised - many offer CD-Rs and DVDs for rental, for free of course. Tax payer dollars well spent!!

I got a Stevie Nicks Live in Concert disc today for like $6 including shipping from Amazon. Another nice thing about these "old" disks is you are capturing performances in a time capsule. As much as I like Sting I can’t go back and see him on the Brand New Day Tour 20 years ago, but with the disc its almost like a "way back" machine.
