Phase inverting preamps

Apologies in advance for this newbie question. I was reading some reviews of preamps and a couple said that the preamp "inverts phasing" and that this would have to be accounted for elsewhere in the system. I know what phasing means, but how and where does one allow for it elsewhere in the system?

Gentlemen- 50% of all recordings are inverted polarity. If you have more than 2 or 3 mics in the recording, you won't be able to detect polarity inversion. Now we've had a polarity inversion switch on our preamps since their inception in 1989, but I never use it because its a rare recording where its audible unless you listen to only purist recordings.
