I've bought two DeepBlue 2s for my daughters' families. They're the perfect solution for them, utterly simple to operate, both Bluetooth and wired inputs, remote control, big enough to contain realistically-sized drivers but visually unobtrusive, well built and, most important, excellent sound. I think they're a remarkable bargain.
Haven't heard the newer models but I can highly recommend the ones I bought.
The only issue I can think of for your daughter is that compared to most one-piece units the bass is substantial and might need some isolation under the unit in a dorm room situation.
