Ortofon 2M Bronze vs 2M black any difference?

I've had both.  They are voiced very similar but the Black is worth upgrading to. 

The difference is in the stylus.  The Bronze uses a Nude Fine Line with a frequency response of 20-29K Hz and the Black uses a nude Shibata with a response up 31K Hz.  Other than this, every other spec the same.

Whether you can hear a difference would be up to you.

The black has different internal wiring as well

What is your tonearm?

It has the stock arm a RB808 Tonearm, and i am getting some spacers put on too, for the arm.

For the VTA issue. But dose the 2m black have different internal wiring I thought it was only the styles was the only change.

I am not aware of any internal wiring differences,  With the exception of the stylus and extended high frequency response of the Black, all other critical specs are the same.

For the price of 2M black (shibata) you can easily find nos Stanton 980 or 981 (both with stereohedron stylus), those cartridges are way superior to modern Ortofon and most of the top vintage MMs. 

My friend replaced his 2M Red yesterday with vintage nos Stanton 881s mk2 i gave him (official Doug Sax / Sheffield Lab's studio monitoring cartridge). He said it's a huge improvement over the ortofon.

The cart body is the same as with both the Black and Bronze.  The only difference is the stylus. So yes same internal wiring. 

I have a 2M black, and would like to get a bronze stylus, trade or purchase.

My 2M Bronze is worth every penny of its price. So vivid and so much detail! A more engaging listen than even my old Grace F9E. It makes my Nagaoka MP150 and 200 seem unnatural and colored. I’ve not heard a better MM in my rig all things considered. Next step will be a Black replacement stylus.

Johnjohn, correct the bronze and black styli are interchangeable. The effective mass of these styli are essentially the same and their tracking ability is close to identical. The radius is a little different so they will contact the groove at a different level. Whether or not one stylus sounds better than another will probably depend more on what styli your records have encountered in the past or rather where your grooves are worn the least.

Search Michael Fremer’s Analog Planet comparison of nine cartridges, which included both the bronze and black 2Ms. You can download files to hear the differences (which I felt were clear). 

In my rig and that of some friends the Bronce sounds very
natural and detailed.
For my taste the the Black is (depending on the record)
sometimes overanalytical without matching the details of
high priced MCs.

So for me the Bronze is the best Ortofon 2M regardless of
the price.
