Bottom line - the OPPO 205 universal disc player/DAC is not quite as good as a $6k purpose built DAC, right?

the real question here is what DAC will sound better than an Oppo 205 for the lowest price?

2 lists - one for Redbook, and one for DSD etc.

w/o listening, I'd expect that a $9k Ayre unit would win

Did you "notice the improvement instantly" ???   That is what they claim.

Thx - quality transformers are spendy so it seems likely a co. would economize there

The Yggy is limited to Redbook but is stellar

You are right about freq. response, harmonic distortion and other problems being greater in speakers than any other component.

But an upgrade in other components for just say $1,000 can produce better SQ even in speakers that are not the best (which can cost $120,000).

I'm not an MQA fan as I don't see what the benefit is vs. a HiRes recording
