Oppo Ceasing production

Perhaps their financial backers pulled the plug on the operation.  I am quite sad because I was planning on buying a 205 later this year. to replace my Sony BD player which is at least 12 years old.

From August 2017  up to today, I bought 8 new pieces of equipment.  This is a dying hobby and when all of us old geezers (I'm 64) go, the High End will die with us.  Case in point:  I offered to give my son (36 years old) a high end integrated amp, high end speakers, turntable and cd player (total cost of equipment over 10K) with the only stipulation he uses it and doesn't sell it.  He didn't want it.  He said all he needs is his phone and headphones.  This is coming from a kid who grew up in a household with high end equipment and who used to sit and listen with me.  The High End is doomed.

There is someone on here selling a brand new in box Oppo 205 for...wait for it....$2600.00.  I sent the person selling the player a nice and polite PM saying that what he is doing is taking advantage of a bad situation and that he should be ashamed of himself for price gouging.  His response that he is much cheaper than the 4-6K they are selling for on eBay and that I am a jerk for stating the obvious.  What person in their right mind would pay that kind of money for it?  At the retail price, it is a decent product, but at 4-6K???  You can buy an Ayre or Esoteric for that kind of money.  Anyone who pays over retail for a 205 is a fool IMHO.
