Older 802s or newer 804s

That’s a tough call.

The 802 Marlan head allows for a more open sound but the new series has the better midrange and sweeter treble....

Re open sound, if you have ever auditioned the 804d3 side by side against 803d3 you will know what I mean...

Probably D1s to keep it cost comparative. I haven't done much price hunting though. 

I'm using 804 D3s and am having trouble finding any faults. Still looking for the perfect position (takes time). I really like these speakers. Unless you park them up against a wall, however, they do benefit from a subwoofer.

Which 802 are you referring to? 802 D2 or 802 D1 or older?
