odd question about speaker placement

I have a pair of decent fronts that I want to put in my home office. I love where the desk is and really do not want to move it. But there's a wall on the left of the desk preventing me from putting my speaker stand there. So I started getting a weird idea that is likely going to be shut down by the good peeps here... but like is it a terrible idea to put my fronts to the side of where I am sitting? This is almost only for music while I work and to play music along with in the jam space I have built behind the office area of the room. Dual purpose FTW. So while placing the speakers on the sides of the desk is pretty ideal for the jamming part of the room I'm wondering if this is just hair brained and silly. My thinking is a speaker for each ear aimed right at them is going to sound great. And I'm going to try it in any case but I'd truth the leet opinions of this group over my own ears.

Or in the very least, I'm just curious what people thing. Everything I know about speaker placement is totally traditional stuff for setting up a living room. Cheers!

In general near field is good ... placing a large flat surface in close proximity to the listening axis will change dynamics.

The desk top surface is now contributing to what only the floor might have influenced in a different placement.
