Nude Turntable Project

I could not fit the whole story in this Forum so have had to add it to my System Page.
I am attempting to hear if a 'naked' DD turntable can sound as good as Raul claims.

Lewm,
the Emt has no suspension between motor and idler drive, only short isolation bushes.....then supported by a suspension frame (!) but that is another matter!
Hi Halcro,
having been engaged in many other topics for a while I am a late runner up to this thread. This seems to be a wonderful project you are doing Halcro, diving into the world of experimenting with old school arms and TTs. I am still focused more on MCs as TBone seems to be too. Nevertheless when you have the chance why not going for an old EMT 997 Banana ( NOS) and using the wonderful EMT cartridges, they are not expensive in comparison to most modern MCs. One of my favourites is the TSD 15 lzi - sorry this modern MC is for SME, not for the EMT connectors. A very good start without investing into a new arm. Maybe we see more fantastic arms on your Victor in the future...
Thanks Halcro,
you are right, I got the Empire thanks to your advice and I will have it mounted like you recommended - Xmas lies ahead of us! Maybe I am a bit reluctant to compare new cartridges after having sold my Grand Slamm. Now I know how good this loudspeaker was.
Nevertheless when I received my latest master tape from The Tape Project ( little hatch - rock with my baby) and I did listen to "Baby please don't go" I realized that the sound is still acceptable...
It is wonderful to have many options, in analogue as well as in life. With my second home bases now in Vietnam I am getting closer to you. :-)
wow Halcro, you really did it! the naked guy - a very courageous approach. How did you put the table on the frame - any rubber or softening parts in between?
what do you think about a Japanese paper wall around the skeleton, still looking through but no dust entering the electronics?
Dear Halcro,
yes I have the same duty as you taking care of the dust in between the suspension frame and the R 80 parts. I now saw the three rubber parts you are using. The R 80 suspension frame uses 4 springs at the corners. The table is put on a nonstop hard rubber band. of course the weight is a different one.

your construction looks very elegant.
pls. tell me what other mods you are planning.

Dear Halcro,
just had an idea. pls tell me if it is not working! What about a silver metal surrounding with nice looking slits for the ventilation, like in a helmet (many small slits)?
Richard,
agree with you. i would also go for something between the spikes and the shelf. Harmonix has fantastic small plates to put the spikes on (not that much expensive). Does it change the sound? Yes, definitely!
Or you end up with putting the table on a Harmonix RSB-1 platform. Does it change the sound? Yes! Does it change your budget? Oh yes...
Halcro,
there might be only one conclusion, get rid of the Raven :-)
isn't it time for a change? I don't know about the value of these modern machines right now. I always went for technology, musicality and a rare design when going for tables. My tables kept the value, they instead increased. I really don't get it why some audio friends pay horrendous amounts for everyday tables which basically copy an originial, to the better?
Halcro,
there came out so many Micro Seiki CU180 metal plates out of China in the last years MS couldn't have produced in the golden (!) times of Japanese turntable building...
Dear Halcro,
I am sorry , I can not participate. I have no i-phone. I am pretty sure that my possible findings will not have any impact on my listening pleasure...
pls. go on
