Nottingham Mentor Rebuild

I am in the process of totally rebuilding a Mentor, I’m getting a new motor, all new tonearm setup, this on has a old linear tracking system , what I need advice on is the Plinth, what’s the best resurfacing, total sand down and repaint?  Thought about taking to a paint shop like an automotive, thoughts suggestions?
