Nostalgia, Hyperbole, etc. But some of the old DVD-A I have sound damn good.
I know there are downloads and other crap, but I have the players and discs I have and when I play one of the DVD-A disks I have they sound, for the lack of a better word, peaceful.
I agree as well. In fact, I have a great Pioneer Elite player and about 20 DVD Audio disc and a dozen still in the wrapper. My fav by far is -Sea Change- By Beck. The sound quality is untouchable!
I agree, DVD-A was a good format -- well, except for the need in many cases to have a video monitor attached to play music. But the same sound can be got from 24/96 or 24/192 downloads. Audio quality will vary from release to release, but they provide excellent sonics.
OP I wholeheartedly concur! I have an Esoteric DV-50S and a fair amount of DVD-A discs and some are just mind blowing. Especially the ones remastered by Steve Wilson like the King Crimson and Porcupine Tree discs.
I tend to buy them whenever I see them if not stupidly priced.
