New video review of Fritz Carbon 7 SE Mk. II "Punches above its weight"

There's an really well done review of the Fritz 7 SE Mk. II speaker, here:

https://youtu.be/pbfHks9ukNs

He does a good job of describing the speaker and also comparing it to the Dynaudio Special 40 and the Buchardt S400. Also against Sonus Faber speaker. Fritz beats them, in this reviewer's opinion. I also concur.

I'm glad to see this review. Fritz deserves it and this speaker is amazing.

One thing he could have emphasized even more was how easy this speaker is to drive -- with no dips below 6 ohm on the impedance curve.

"Punches above its weight" is a phrase which recurs. I can't agree more.

Thanks David

I purchased a set of Carbon 7 SE mkii’s from Fritz last summer partly based on your write up of them and have been very happy with the purchase. Typically use a Van Alstine SET120 with them however I’m currently powering them with a 3.3 wpc Sayes 2a3 Set….which is a shockingly nice pairing made possible by that Series crossover and benign impedance and phase shift behavior.
I’d also love to see how they respond with a more powerful amp…like the M225 monos from Van Alstine.
That reviewer is kind of hard to take and didn’t really say all that much about the Carbon 7’s beyond them being “natural sounding” and leading with their midrange….attributes often praised on Fritz speakers. Still, happy to see John getting some more reviews and exposure to a larger audience. Agree that John is a very sweet and helpful guy.

These speakers certainly pull you in with their ability to render the tone of an instrument. I do sometimes feel that complex music can feel a little bit blurred…but I suspect that may be my room (or even my speaker cables).

I’ve been considering trying to high-pass them around 45hz and offload the lower octave to 2 Omega subs….but there’s a bit of complexity there that I’m enjoying not dealing with at the moment.

I believe that these speakers will continue to scale and sound better as the rest of the system is improved.

What amplification did you end up settling on with them?

Indeed it was a surprising revelation for me when John said to go ahead and try that amp with them…. I was not intending to use that amo at all with these speakers … purchased them specifically to use with that AVA amp.

But , John uses them with a 2.2 wpc Decware amp and displays a photo of the pairing on his website

(see the 4th pic down on his product page.   http://www.fritzspeakers.com/DreamWeaverFritzCarbon7Mk2SpecPage.asp) … Also the reviewer mentioned using the new 2 wpc Schiit amp.

That said… with the right music, at the right volume the super low power amp works very well… plus mine has a beefy supply which I think helps,  but I believe the Carbons are better suited to higher wattage for all-around use.

I’ve been curious to compare them to the Ascend Sierra 2Ex.  Obviously a different flavor with the ribbon tweeter but would love to hear them side by side.
