Car Audio?
new setup
hi i am new to all this audio stuff
and i am looking to buy a new setup so i am thinking of buying a soundstream T5.124 which is a 12 inch 4 ohm subbwoofer with a 1000 watts rms and i wanted to buy that with 2 SM.800 they 150 watts rms each at 4ohm so i wanted to ask if i can connect 2 different model amps one for the subb and another one thats a different kind or model for the speakers if thats possible ill be happy if u guys can help me pick amps or if you have onother suggestions like onother speakers that u think will be better or another subb ill be happy to hear the suggestions
i got confused in finding amps that are 4 ohms with 2 channels that can handel that power easily that arent class d amps because ive heard that class d amps are mostly for subbwoofers so because of that correct me if i am wrong
thanks a lot for the help:)

They've got you all confused not understanding what the numbers mean. They like things that way. Guys not being able to figure things out means guys never getting the results they want means more sales as they keep running running running the treadmill. All the subs you will ever need can be hooked up to one amp. You just have to know how to hook them up in order to avoid amp problems. This is gonna sound like splitting hairs but the T5.124 subwoofer you like doesn't come "with" 1000 watts. It doesn't need 1000 watts either. The 1000 watts is telling you it can handle that much power. That's all. What you care about with a subwoofer, the speaker, the driver part, is power handling (watts it can handle without burning out), efficiency (measured in dB), and impedance (measured in Ohms). Then since you sound DIY you want to consider the cabinet you will be using. Ported or sealed. You can do either one. You can do both. This works great. Check it out: https://systems.audiogon.com/systems/8367 The best solution for awesome bass is what you see right there. Its called a Swarm or Distributed Bass Array. You can build a DBA with any four subs. Notice mine, two are ported, two are sealed, one is powered. Four are driven by Dayton Audio amps, highly recommended. You can use just about any subs you like. Bigger is better. More is better. Just be sure to use at least 4 and you will get great results. Fantastic results. Use less, no matter how big or powerful, sorry, just won't get you there. You don't need 2 amps like I have. You can run the same 4 subs off one amp just fine. I know. I tried. It works. I just have 2 because, well look at my system. But I did run the same 4 off just the one Dayton and it was so close to the same you would never know unless you directly compared. So save your money for where it will make more difference. The key to running 4 subs off one amp is to understand impedance. You need to know the impedance of your speakers, and how to connect them series vs parallel to get the impedance right. Very simple to do, long story to explain, tutorials all over the web. Anyway, DBA, that's what you want. Dayton SA-1000. Parts Express has DIY sub kits on sale right now. Pre-cut, couldn't be easier. That's what mine are. If you want to make them look all pretty like mine with genuine Rosewood veneer let me know I will hook you up. Otherwise rattle can, works just as good. Parts Express. Dayton SA-1000. DBA. Way to go. Totally. If you need any help don't hesitate to ask. I tend not to revisit threads on account of its so depressing having to scroll past all the misleading gibber gabber. Watch. You will see. They will do their best to confuse you even further. PM. I will answer. |
