New DAC, what should I look for?

I currently have a PSA DirectStream Mk1 (modified with APS output transformers and external power supply). Nothing wrong with it at all, but it's the oldest components I have and I'm thinking I may want to try something different. Budget is  ~5k used

 

The sound profile that I'm looking for is smooth and spacious. Yes, details are nice, but I can compromise somewhat on that to gain smoothness and spaciousness.

 

The rest of my system consists of PureAudioProject Trio15Classic driven by MasterSound Compact 845. Streamer is Holo Audio Red and Small Green Computer i7 is taking care of the Roon/HQPlayer duties. All cables are Silversmith

"Smooth and Spacious" are the hallmark of R2R DACs, which are not the end game for detail mongers.....but generally incredibly enjoyable DACs that draw you into enjoying music, instead of listening to it (if that makes any sense).

I would have a more detailed conversation with Audioman58 about Denafrips DACs, as he is an importer. The recommendations for Lampizator and T+A are also solid.

I'm upgrading my DAC later this year, and the Denafrips Terminator 15th, T+A 200, and Lampizator (among others) will be on my final list. Additionally (and this is my personal opinion), the Holo Audio DACs are not at the Denafrips Terminator level.....and the Terminator 15th is really a Terminator Plus
