NAD Reliability

I have a NAD 6240 cassette deck. I paid almost as much as the Naks were going for 12 years ago. Just quit a few months ago. cost me $125 to fix. I wouldn't be too mad, but the deck only had 40 hour on it!

I have owned NAD 1300 Preamp and it has been reliable for last 10 years. However it had pops + clicks from day 1. I have since upgraded to an Adcom Gfp 565 and still have the pops + clicks. I think the culprit is my Hafler DH-200 amp.

Had my AVR716 integrated home theater preamp/amp for several years and had NO problems whatsoever... always the clean power i need, and never broke down for a second... -b

I own one NAD preamp/tuner and two Nad 208 amplifiers. The equipment is ~5 yrs old. All have needed repair at least once, one amp twice. My impression is that it is unreliable, unless this is atypical record for most midfi gear.

It only makes sense that a manufacturer's biggest reliability problems would be with a unit that has moving parts. Note that those who didn't have reliability problems all had machines without moving parts. Also, I believe that NAD uses a Sanyo drawer mechanism for its CD players. Not exactly a name I associate with (excuse the pun) "top-drawer" quality.

Well, I've sold NAD equipment over the last few year's, and the only real problems that I've encountered with my customers pieces have been with the CD players! Some may have had different experiences, but our running joke over the years was that NAD really stands for "Not Another Defective!"...Probably a little out of line!?!?

I have had an NAD 517 for 4 yeears (or so) with no problems.

Hi. Let's see...I have a 20 year old 3020 integrated that powers the audio to my TV-it's on 24 hours a day and has never seen the inside of a repair shop. A 1020 pre-amp,21 years old is in my second system,also running 24 hours a day,also never a problem. Once upon a time,I also owned a 2140 power amp,it too was always reliable. Now keep in mind that all this stuff was from back when NAD was just getting started,but hey,it's the same company,right? ALL this stuff sounds great for the money,as you already now. I've found amps, pre's, tuners and receivers to be very reliable but have had several problems with CD players including a 5140 and a 502.

I own four different stereos featuring NAD receivers, integrated amps, tuner, CD players. This equipment ranges from 15 years old, to new, and I've never had any trouble at all. Great value, very reliable. Jeff

MY NAD 1600 TUNER / PREAMP IS 10 YEARS OLD AND STILL HAS IT'S ORIGNAL LIGHT BULBS AND THE KNOBS AND SWITCHES HAVE NEVER SEEN TUNER CLEANER. IT GETS USED 8-10 HOURS A DAY, EVERYDAY. J.B.
