Mr Snyder, Esoteric DOES have the ability to use different clocks (Cybershaft, Mutec GMBH Ref 10 etc) so I have no idea where your getting your info that the Esoteric cant be upgraded. WCSS Stock K-1 is nowhere close to reaching its full potential. I applaud him for trying different cables etc BUT in many cases he ditches gear that he hasn't done enough research on. The REF 10 (And any other Tube gear) he simply used the generic tubes the thing came with....always a BIG mistake. K-1 will be the same thing...or any other Esoteric Spinner for that matter. Esoteric Clocks are a complete Rip-Off and pale in comparison to others I mentioned at 1/3 the price (Depending on model). |
Femto 93?? For about 25% of that price you can get a MUCH Better Femto 33 Clock (Lower is better)....he doesn't need the Dac. The lowest ANY MSB Clock goes is Femto 33 and that's for like 80K MSRP. |
Like I said before and the guy reiterated above CYBERSHAFT or MUTEC REF 10 Clock. The Clock's can be used with any Esoteric or DCS Spinner unlike the Upsampler. Why get stuck with something that only works with 1 brand? |
Mutec is the 2nd choice anyway behind Cybershaft. BNC Cable should be all you need to connect to DCS or Esoteric. As stated before there is PLENTY of people with hands on Experience comparing a Cybershaft to one of the Various Esoteric Standalone Clocks....its not even a fight at 1/3 or less of the cost. Go to Audioafficiondo and look at the Esoteric Forum. Ignore at your own peril/expense and keep chasing your tail. |
The Benchmark noted above is an Amp....not a Pre. It weighs about as much as a bowling bowl which will be welcome for people who have bad backs. |
WCSS, I am on board with your take. Transparency/Clarity would be great and appreciated on about 5% of what I listen to. All the singer/songwriter stuff (Lightfoot, Fogelberg, J. Browne, Zevon etc)....the rest I prefer to hear it Masked, Euphonic, blah blah blah....whatever makes those subpar masterings sound better. Thank God some of what I listened to in the 70's is finally getting "cleaned up" and re-released. Should have happened 20 years ago. |

Why did I post gear that works with Mutec....I guess I felt like annoying you and proving you wrong...mission accomplished. Clearly its not the 1 box solution like it is with Esoteric but it still can be used with DCS. You inferred in your prior comment...and WCSS took it that way...they were totally incompatible. So DCS is sticking its customers with an entire extra box to sell instead of putting the entire clock function into 1 box. Brilliant marketing scheme. |
I was joking about you know who. (Dont want to give him too much press) The Benchmark usually receives stellar reviews/comments. Kal Rubinson (Multi Channel reviewer for Stereophile) runs 3 of them in his 5.1 setup. He raves about them....but he listens to classical music primarily. When people comment about what they are hearing on their gear its important (to me anyway) to actually know WHAT kinda music they are listening to. Most people bypass that completely. Im sure Diana Krall sounds much better on those Benchmarks than Ozzy would. |
Obviously Kstaken doesn’t listen to Classic Rock or other poorly recorded music. Must be a Pipe and Slippers kinda guy musically speaking...which is fine. To each his own. I have my suspicions that Viber either cloned himself or changed his Audiogon name. Wflm.....that Vivaldi thread is 5 - 6 years old. I am not telling anybody what to buy. Not True about the subscribers. DARKO, ZERO FIDELITY and many others only review 2-3 pieces a month. You dont have to do a Quasi-Daily show like Guttenberg (5 times a week) and many of his Vids arent reviews about particular gear but just general talk about a given topic. These guys dont give rave reviews about everything AND they even say other brands/models they prefer over the piece they are currently reviewing. Doesnt seem to stop the product from coming in from sources. I think your "speculating" in your own head too much without actually doing the homework in this particular area. Check out these guys above as well as THE NEXT BEST THING AUDIO, OCD HI-FI GUY and many others. Im sure others on this thread can give you many other guys to "follow" on youtube. After you see what these guys are doing..and how frequently...you can do something that works around your job/family etc. Im sure most of the gear your offered probably wont be in the same swimming pool as the stuff your currently messing with BUT you get to experiment for free and most likely get to keep the pieces you like for 50%-60% of list price. This thread is NOTHING compared to the volume of people you can reach in that medium. You never know till you try. You can always fall back on this thread if nothing pans out for whatever reason. If a Slippery Rock State College Dropout like me can retire in his Mid 40's so can you. Believe in yourself internally (not false outward bravado) and use your God given talents/gifts to the best of your ability. I am 100% confident you can do it if you put in the work. |

Nothing better than having a hobby/interest you love and make a living at it. Thank God WCSS is about the size of Rob Gronkowski....and he has his back too unfortunately. |
My 2 Cents is you should get a Youtube channel going. You could probably manually delete all unwanted comments...and the Atomic Bombs I drop on certain people wouldnt get deleted by a moderator. :) If you havent looked around youtube most of these reviewers get to try all this stuff for free and do the same thing you do. For all I know they might get paid a decent chunk of change too (I really don't know). How does Steve Guttenberg afford all those fancy shirts?? He has almost 100,000 subscribers and he mostly auditions stuff well under 10K. You just wouldnt be able to audition what you wanted to...unless you pay for it like you do now. Cant imagine why you havent given that some serious thought....I dont care how Ugly you are I would watch every episode. LOL |

I believe he used the 160M with the NEOLITH’s and not any Wilson Speakers. He also left in the stock tubes. No sense in buying any tube gear if your gonna run it with the crappy tubes that are supplied in most cases. Your in a fight with 1 hand tied behind your back. The 160M can also use at least 4 different tube types in it and its all AUTO BIAS (150,6550,120,88). The 160M’s get a lot of praise paired with the DAW and the Joseph Audio Pearls. |

He already ditched the Boulder....pay attention. Benchmark works best with well recorded music...it sucks with poorly produced recordings. This is the strength of the Luxman. When making bold statements you need to take into account not everybody is listening to the genre of music YOUR listening too. I don't know the entire scope of what the OP listens to...but I know some of it...and the Benchmark would be a completely inappropriate choice. |

You must listen to Pipe and Slippers music cause that's all the AHB2 is good for. Its HORRIFIC on poorly recorded classic rock...like looking at a woman without their warpaint on in the morning...A frightening experience . Im not a Fanboy of any brand and I probably have more Amps here than you will ever have in your life....and only 2 ARC amps. Mcintosh=Harley Davidson. You pay for the brand name but you certainly don't get the quality. Yep...resale value is good. Same goes for Vintage Pioneer, Marantz etc....Prices keep going up. Yet performance wise they lag WAAAAY behind other brands like Sansui, Sanyo and higher end Kenwoods. C47 is crapola. I had the C52 and that was mediocrity at its finest. I also noticed in prior posts made by you that you say you have BOTH of them. We all know that isn't true.

Ron,There is a comparison on the Audio Shark Forum in the Gryphon area. The comments above dont necessarily match up with the comments made by the Gryphon dealer. Surprised Thieliste who is on that Forum as well didnt voice his opinion/experience there.
