a few blasts from the past.......some bands I saw at the old MFP...
Roomful of Blues,Robert Gordon,Brewer and Shipley..
and Stanton Anderson a few times at Speaks in Island Park, and
Zebra with metal head friend and stood way to close to speakers.
News to me ....googled Speaks and found out it was previously
called for a short time The Rock Pile, but more intriguing, before the
Rock Pile, was called the Action House....from mid 60s to early 70s.
omg you have to see some of the bills........Freak Out w/ Timothy
Leary,Andy Warhol and The Velvet Underground,The Mothers of Invention,The Fugs,The Exploding Plastic Inevitable,The Ronettes,the Shangri-Las and much more A Psychadelic Experience ( their spelling )........Dec.4th 1966 .
Then a bunch more shows The Young Rascals and Mitch Ryder together on same bill 1966...... The Blues Project, followed two weeks
later with the Doors, a long list ..... I'm 62 so this was just ahead
of me......I never heard of Action House until now.......kind of like San Francisco. I don't get too enamored of the past but let's face it..... you can't beat the multiple bands on one bill, nor the next to nothing prices .......The Dead played there in 1970 with NRPS...for $3 bucks
2.50 with the ad. Come on.......
