Musing - audiophiles that new just enough to be dangerous

I remember when some friends told me they bought some cool speakers rated at a "mind blowing" 100 watts. But they were smart enough to buy a receiver (perhaps Realistic) rated at 85 watts so they could turn it all the way up and not damage the speakers.
Any stories?

The one who is dangerous likes A more than B in his system, and then proclaims loudly, as truth from on high, that A *is* better than B -- always, forever, and to anyone who can hear.

That sort of baloney, spoken with authority, can send a lot of newbies down the wrong path. The more equipment I try and the more systems I hear, the more I'm convinced that what's better always depends on the system, room, source material, and -- most of all -- the listener's tastes.
