Music Documentary- The Art of Listening

I know this was posted here a few years ago when it first came out, but I just stumbled across this documentary today. I just wanted to share the link for anyone that might not have seen this video before. It’s a great video showing music from the eyes of performers, writers, engineers, producers and listeners. Give it a look if you haven’t seen it before. It’s really good.

Music is first and foremost a means of conveying emotion, feeling. Technical aspects like frequency response are involved, but that is not what these guys are talking about, because that is not what music is all about.

Like the man said, "the creative womb for music." Not the test tube where we mix chemicals to obtain the perfect spectrographic readout. Passion, crafted to be very pleasing to our ears. What it's all about.

I like the John McBride quote at 23:15, "The studio is the creative womb for music. You have to make it feel good. You need to bring out the passion in the artist, the producer, and the engineer. Because we talk about, 'that's a great record'. Now that's not a reflection on the song. A great record means someone crafted this recording, and this performance, and made it very pleasing to our ears."
