multi channel amp no recievers

Looking for advice for a solid used multi channel amp to run a decent two channel music system in one room as well as background music in two different rooms. Six speakers total. It will be playing a huge variety of music. Under $2500. Will I do better with higher effiecency speakers in the main music space?Help please.
