Moon 330A versus 761

I orginally had a thread regarding the Moon 390 and actually purchased one about a month ago. Thanks for all your input to help me make that decision. In that thread I inquired about the Moon 330A and 761. Received some good reviews about both products. I was planning on purchasing one of these amps but not until till April or  May.

Well Tariffs are increasing the price on all Moon products on March 9th, therefore I need to make a discussion by Friday(3/7). Don't like to be pressured into purchasing any product. The 330A is going up $500 and the 761 by $2,000.

I can get 10% off on either product or the dealer has a demo 761 unit that they will give 15% off. My system is entry level and consist of the following;

Sonus Faber Sonetta V speakers

Moon 390 Network player

ATI 4005 amp (5 channel since I have HT incorporated in the same system)

I would have one of the moon amps powering the Left/Right speaker and the ATI for the center, rears and ceiling speakers.

Which amp would you recommend.? I keep leaning towards the 761, but that may be an over kill for my system.

Thanks for any help.

MY TAKE: based on suitably to perform its function, synergy with the rest of your system, and value for your buck.….and Ignoring two things:

(1) I don’t have the specs on your speakers, so I’m assuming ( guessing?) they are not challenging and hard to drive, so you won’t need further added amp grunt and amp headroom required, triggering a move up to a bigger spec model;

(2) the comparative price differential with the new stupid tariffs - that is not insignificant ;

I’d stick with the 330 as a fine and very suitable unit to marry up with your system. IMO the potential incremental Performance uptick on the 761 won’t justify the added cost outlay in your surround sound system.(overkill)

Price is what you pay. Value is what you get “

Wild card: upgrade option later if you change your mind

Check with SIMAUDIO on their upgrade option credits should you wish to upgrade later.

If it’s anything like their digital gear, MOON provides a full price dealer trade-in value on a higher model upgrade within the first year, and 75% within the second year. A nice option should you change your mind later.
