This came out long ago. Who knows how many pressings they are into now. Its nearly a year already since I got mine. The copy I got was the last one they had at Acoustic Sounds. The reason I know it was their last copy, when I called to complain about the unbelievably poor quality they said sorry that was the last one.
The conversation basically was, I don't usually return records unless they're really bad. This one has major big pops and noise on every single track, with a couple of them so bad you can see the dip in the vinyl, I'm talking the worst record ever, and I've been buying them new and used since 1973! And they said, Yes we know this is the most-returned record we've ever sold! (So much for Knopfler's QA!) We are back-ordered but will be happy to refund just send it back.
Well now here's the thing. I said yeah not so easy. Because in between the horrid noise is one of the most impressive sounding records I've ever heard. When will the next pressing be coming out? We don't know. Well if its like a lot of reissues "we don't know" could mean years if ever. Right. Okay so I'm screwed. And then they said well under the circumstances if you wanted to keep it we'd give you store credit.
And so I got another album with shipping free. Went to Walmart, bought their last copy. Which turned out pretty good. Nowhere near what a quality MoFi SHOULD BE but pretty darn good. So of course I returned the crap one to Walmart. Ha. So sue me, if you think its gonna break the Waltons.
So anyway like I said the music quality on this is awesome. But unless they made some SERIOUS MAJOR CHANGES or you get extremely lucky the pressing quality is gonna suck. Big time suck.
And no I don't care what Mark says. I only care if actual buyers spinning them on a platter are hearing the crap they put out last time or the blissful silence they SHOULD be putting out?
