MHA200 headphone amp. McIntosh failed mel

I ordered the Mac MHA200 headphone amp and received it a few days ago. I was so excited when the dealer called telling me that it had arrived. I was told 4-6 weeks lead time but it arrived after just 10 days!  Well it was downhill from there. After driving nearly two hours round trip, I opened the box ready to set it up and get to listening. And the first thing I found was that they had packed the wrong power cord in the box. A USA 120v  version amp packed with a European 240v cord. Talk about a letdown. A have many standard power cords but this one uses the two contact figure eight style connector to the amp. I don't have one of those laying around. I ordered one from Amazon and got it the next day.

So I have a power cord and set off to get this thing going. I connect it as guided by the dealer. I it the power button. Everything lights up as it should according to the operators manual. And.......no music. I check everything and try a little trouble shooting. No luck. So I called Mac tech support. Well after 90 minutes or so on the phone with two different guys, trying everything they can think of, I am told the amp is defective and has to be returned under warranty. I'm sure you can imagine how I felt. So it was another two hour round trip car ride yesterday to the dealer to get things going. He said he had already spoken to Mac after my frantic call the day before and a replacement unit is in the works.  So sometime, hopefully soon, it will be another car trip to pick it up. Fingers crossed. Good thing I'm retired and have plenty of time.

I have been a Mac owner for nearly 50 years. That’s all I buy. See my virtual system. I’ve never been disappointed in any way.

My local dealer has been in business since 1977. I made my first purchase from him in 1978. Always been terrific in every way. I’m sure this will all work out fine in the end. Just a little disappointing. Hey. Things happen. I get that. That’s what warranties are for.  Right?

Yes my dealer offered to UPS the first unit at no charge. But I didn’t want to risk it. All the carriers these days are hit and miss. He offered again for the replacement. I may just take him up on it this time.
