Cees Rujtenberg founded Metrum and started his own company, Sonnet Digital Audio. He was under an agreement to not use the same designs (he designed them) and came up with something new and better sounding. At least that is what I've read.
He invented entirely new DACs built on what look like small circuit boards that mount perpendicularly to the main board. And he did it all at a lower cost than his original designs and they are reported to even sound better.
Sounds like sour grapes from the guys who didn't part amicably with him.
