McIntosh mp 100 Phone Preamp Problem.... Blinking Red Power Button

Hello all,

Appreciate any potential help... I'm a little dismayed...

I was testing out RCA interconnects on my McIntosh MP 100 preamp, and suddenly the green faceplate starts blinking about every second. After maybe a few minutes of this, just the reg light around the power button blinks about every second.

No more power on!

I looked into the manual, and I didn't find anything that would help. Any suggestions? Did I blow a fuse? Did I somehow kill my McIntosh mp 100 phono preamp?

Thanks

Richard

Yes I did try that already, and did again. No effect. The little red led blinks above the standby / on button and that is all...

And I put in a ticket with McIntosh directly. Any ideas?

Thanks all, wish me luck.

Hello all,

So my amp is getting serviced, and it was apparently two things that failed. The power supply, and some sort of small transistor. It is being repaired.

QUESTION: This seemed to happen when I was simply swapping out a new custom fabricated interconnect.

Do you think there is an issue with this interconnect? Or was it a fluke?

Thanks,

Richard

Wow… so as it turns out…. The McIntosh shop replaced something having to do with the main power, and then it still wasn’t working. Some sort of resistor… still not working… and now try are waiting for a “small chip” from McIntosh.

So it’s still being repaired…!

QUESTION for you all…. How did this happen? I was changing the interconnect to a new custom interconnect when this occurred, could the new custom interconnect shorted the McIntosh preamp to such a degree?

I am worried that it will finally get fixed, I’ll plug the custom cable in, and it’ll happen again.

Even though the custom cable seemed to work fine when connected between my DAC and my amp.

How did this happen?

Thanks,

Richard

Maybe a dumb question, but was the Mcintosh powered up during the interconnect switch?

Bill

Yes, i think it was powered up when I made the switch.

… was that it?

The McIntosh tech asked the same question…. Saying I should make sure it is powered down when doing anything. If that is the case… such sensitive equipment….
