McIntosh c2300 remote: will it work with mac cd

I have a Mcintosch c2300 preamp. The remote should work with my macintosh mvp861 DVD / CD player, but it currently does not. Does anyone know how to sync the remote so that it will control the MVP861? Thank you in advance.
