I own a REF5se and MC402 and use the 12v trigger with no problems .
McIntosh / Audio Research 12V remote start jack
I own an Audio Research REF3 and a McIntosh MC152. It would make life easier if powering on the REF3 would also power on the McIntosh. I've never used the 12V remote start jacks on these components, and wonder if they are compatible. Has anyone tried linking these two components? What kind of interconnect and termination is needed? Looks like stereo 1/8" on both ends would do it...? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Here's why I ask about compatibility and cabling: Pg. 4 of the MC152 manual describes the Power Control Connector as being a 3.5mm stereo (ie, TRS) connector. The sleeve connection controls front panel meter illumination. The REF3 manual has no suggestion of a separate sleeve connection, nor does it specify the size of the remote start jacks. I therefore would expect this to be a 3.5mm mono (ie, TS) jack. |
Found the MC402 manual online. The PCI jack on this component is also 1/8" stereo, but the sleeve connection is not used. The manual recommends utilizing stereo termination on both ends of the interconnect, but this recommendation appears restricted to "other McIntosh components". The language in the REF5se manual I found is similar to the REF3 manual. |
If a 3.5mm stereo cable can't control the
front panel meter illumination, maybe you can add a
3.5mm Mono Plug to 3.5mm Stereo Jack Adaptor
on REF3 12v trigger output. https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-107128-Stereo-Adaptor-Plated/dp/B002N1XMPO/ref=pd_sim_23_2?_encodin... |
