mcintosh amps any one can explain impedance taps


any one that knows what is happening when you try driferent omh taps on the amp the amp is rated at same power 8 4 or 2 omhs so what does it do when you try driferent taps thanks

My Mac 501 SS mono's sound better on the 4 ohm tap with my Thiel 3.6 spkers that have a nominal imp of 4 ohms but dip to 2 ohms. The 2 ohm tap sounded very different, not nearly as good.
Old thread I know. I'm currently running 2 pairs of AR speakers(3 and 3a) both 4ohm. My amp, a McIntosh MC2300 has 2 ohm taps which is what I'm using. They sound very good this way, but since the amp also has 1 and .5 ohm taps, and since the AR's can dip below 4 ohm's each, wonder if it would be better sounding to use one of the lower ohm taps. Assuming there is no danger in doing so. Thanks.
