Yup, me!
I am using them with a pair of VLR's.
Steve McCormack upgraded the pre and amps just this year and it is really nice. I got them because my office is already cluttered with stuff. The speakers are mounted on the wall near the ceiling and the amps will be located right next to them (so, short loudspeaker cables, but long Power cord).
I wish I could tell you the difference, but I was using the Micro amp/Micro preamp with a pair of Zu Omen Bookshelf speakers. It was OK, but I knew it could be better. I found a broken Micro Amp on Ebay and had SMcAudio convert my working unit and the broken one into monoblocks.
It took a while, so comparing differences in sound would be difficult to say, but all in all, I am very happy I did it.
If I were you, I would get the amps and pre upgraded by SMc Audio. Pat and Steve are very accommodating and you can specify a price point.
I would also think of adding a Vandy 2w/q sub or two. They really flesh out the 2's and 3's (Heck, the flesh out my Treo's).
