Marantz SA11-S2 Laser assembly

Starting to get the "can't play" message on some SACD's. I am assuming the laser is failing. Does anyone know the part number or compatible unit from a different Marantz model? Also, how difficult is it to replace? Thanks for any info.

You can buy the laser on eBay. I bought mine from Liberty electronics.

I have an Exemplar Audio Denton 2900 that I have kept running by replacing the laser. I watched videos on the replacement process, it’s not hard.

Just be careful when removing the laser there is a little spring under the laser. If you get in a rush the spring will release while removing the laser off there rails and fly anywhere or fall down in unit.

You will also need to remove the solder ball that the manufacture installs to stop static damage during transport and handling. If you can’t solder you can bring it to a tech to be removed, it takes less than a minute. Be sure who ever removes solder ball is grounded by a strap or have someone hold onto your arm while solder ball is removed as this will also provide a ground.

First time I did it I had no idea what I was doing but I was able to do it. Back then I didn’t know how to solder so a tech was needed to remove solder ball.

Thanks, I see the replacements on Ebay. Given the pricing I am going to assume they are not OEM. I may try to replace myself - that solder ball was likely removed by Marantz when they replaced the laser several years ago.

I own a Marantz SA11-S2. Keep me posted as you massage a new Laser Block.

This Player is worth repairing.
