Magico Owners - what are you using for amplification?

Hi all,

Pretty simple just like the title says.....curious what other owners are using for power. I was having a moment a while back where I thought I could use an improvement, and then more recently the other night was completely blown away and laughing that I ever considered it. Figured I might ask here and get some good feedback. Currently using Luxman 509x integrated with S3MK1’s. When I was researching the "fit" (since I already had the amp) I stumbled on feedback from the FL audio show where they were debuting the A3’s with 509x and getting great reviews. A3 is rated same 88db/4ohm as the S3 but might in fact be a bit easier? Who knows.

Thanks in advance for insights.

For my A3's (first production run), I use my 20+ years Krell FPB 300cx, with re-capping at Krell a few years ago. Magico's need juice, and this amp has the rare combo of plenty of juice and Class A musicality. Preamp is VTL 7.5iii, the disappearing preamp which never even hiccups. Neal

I had Boulder w the M2s.  IMO it was too bright for my taste but plenty of power.  Live rock sounded excellent as brightness is not uncommon in such situations.  Some other recordings sounded fantastic too.  But overall just a bit forward especially with jazz horns.  I tried Accuphase in home and it was the exact opposite.  For me, too veiled and I lost the Magic of why I love Magico.  Then I settled on CH Precision.  An excellent midpoint between the Accuphase and Boulder.  Detailed, never bright, musical but never veiled.  I have since upgraded to the M6s.   The beauty of Magico is you can really tune to the sound you are looking for as every aspect of your system can affect the sound.  CHP are a great match.

Since I posted this I have upgraded from Luxman 509x to Luxman C900/M900 combination.  The differences are notable for sure.  Like many others, these really respond to current.

Magico A5 with a Boulder 866. Though I would like to try out the Gryphon Diablo 333 one day.

Running Simaudio 390 Pre/DAC/Streamer into Simaudio 330A Amp into Magico A3s.  Electronics are in an enclosed console, so it was important that it not run too hot.  Amp (125 watts first 5 Class A) will get warm but not hand burning hot.

@hanki - Interested in comments on how hot the Coda S5.5 runs.  Would it burn your hand or just warm.  Thanks.
