Loudspeaker for second system

Looking around for a loudspeaker retailing for $1000.00 per pair and came upon the ELAC UF-5 which
retail for the $1000.00, designed by Andrew Jones and are looking to audition them. 'Does anybody heard these speakers or have any knowledge with regard to them or are there any other speakers in this price range that
you can recommend.  The reviews on this 3 way 3 foot high tower sound incredible.
Thank you.

Be careful with Elac.  They need very good electronics to sound good.  They can be a good value, but personally, many of their models aren't 'great value' speakers as everyone says they are.   They can be very bright and fatiguing.  Now days many equate that to 'great extension and bigger soundstage'.   NAD is a good match for them.

If you can, you also should look for a pair of Vandersteen 1's or even a used pair of 2's (late model) as they are outstanding values at listed price let alone a good used set if you can find them.  The 1's, to me as well as many reviewers, have become one of the best values in floor standing speaker.
Doug, I have heard their line for years now.  Like many other lines out there, you don't always get better quality by moving up.  Often times they have a totally different design as you go up and it's not always better.  Often times budget companies do a nice job for the price points, but once they step out of that realm, they lose their value.  Happens very often I feel.
I agree that Alan is an excellent dealer to go to. He's always taken care of my friends who live near HOtlanta.  I sent a good friend there last month (he works for an IEM company, Empire Ears www.empireears.com) and they are only 20 minutes away and didn't even know the store was there, lol.....  Anyway, he went in to audition the KEF, ELAC and then heard the Vandersteen's when he remembered that was what I owned.

All I can say is that he is now saving up for a pair of Steen's and an Ayre Codex.  He said the Elac's were way too bright for him (again, many love that sound). Said that after 30 minutes he was fatigued.  Alan was using the Parasound I believe.  That was telling as he is part of the group at EE that listen to prototypes when they are voicing their in ear monitors.  He has a very good ear.

What I personally liked about sending someone with a great ear in was that he wasn't jaded by anything.  He had no idea what Steen's I owned and I never really spoke to him about my system in any detail that would have jaded him.  I even told him that they carried the KEF's that he owned (he purchased a used pair of lower priced one's a month before he went there).

Lot's of great choices.
